CommUniverCity
partner the Health Trust brings health services to the Berryessa Flea Market
The Health Trust held its semi–annual Open Air Health Fair at the Berryessa Flea Market,
bringing free health screening, referrals, information, and education to anyone regardless of insurance
status.
Committed to bringing health services to those without a medical home, the Health Trust held its semi–annual
Open Air Health Fair all weekend. The non–profit health organization, a CommUniverCity partner, strives to
bring wellness and access to health services to all people, regardless of insurance status.
The Health Fair provided a series of screenings and information to market goers, including blood pressure,
BMI (Body Mass Index), cholesterol, and blood sugar checks, consultations with nutrition experts, and
referrals to affordable healthcare providers. Representatives from organizations throughout Santa Clara
County were also on site to provide information about other services. Staff was available to
set up appointments with families interested in low–cost health insurance providers. The event also included
a series of modules coordinated by nutrition students from San José State University designed to educate
attendees about healthy living styles.
Thanks to over 500 volunteers from San José State’s Nursing Program and other service learners,
Evergreen Community College, Friday Night Live, and additional volunteer groups, the event provided over 500
screenings and offered more than 15,000 health services. The volunteers who participated in the Open Air
Health Fair learned how to affect change on a community level by becoming engaged in this exciting event.
